Hytrans Fire System used in environmental emergency on the Bastau River in the Minden-Luebbecke district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
After heavy rain and high water levels in early July this year the oxygen content in more than 19 kilometers of the Bastau River dropped considerably. Pungent smells and discoloured water resulted and the authorities feared for fish stocks. The Hytrans Fire System from the District fire department was deployed by local fire fighters from Lichtenau and Salzkotten to support local pump units. Water was drawn from the river by this special high pressure pump and agitated to oxygenate it and was then pumped back into the river. The delivery output of the high pressure pump is 3.500 lpm at 10 bar at high pressure and 8,000 lpm at 2.1 at hi flow mode. The pump was acquired by the State of North Rhine- Westphalia and is stationed at the Minden-Luebbecke District fire and emergency services department.
Yesterday more than eleven pumps were in use at the Bastau. Here, the river water is sucked with firefighters device, pumped through swirls and reintroduced into the river. The aim is to increase the oxygen content.
